Program of the El Carmen Festivities 2024
With the sun still on the horizon and the marked heat that accompanies these days, the Pilgrimage-Ofrenda started around 18:00 p.m. from Juan Manuel Álamo Suárez Avenue, (Carpintero de Ribera). A large crowd of neighbors and people from all over the island did not want to miss this event in which tradition, fun and solidarity go hand in hand.
The delegation left along Miguel Marrero Rodríguez Avenue, recently opened to traffic after the partial pedestrianization works that the City Council has carried out. From there he crossed Graciliano Afonso Street until he reached Pérez Galdós Square, where the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is located, a place that also brought together a large number of pilgrims and faithful to participate in the mass, after which the The image of the Patroness of the Sea was transferred amidst cheers to the permanent tent in the aforementioned plaza.
The Virgin of Carmen, adorned with flowers, was first entertained, as is customary, by the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, along with representatives of Friends of Folklore Los Pescadores de Arguineguín, the organizing group of the event together with the Mogán City Council and the Parish . The first mayor brought the floral offering to the Virgin and the Local Government joined in by bringing both local and non-perishable products to the image.
Then the rest of the offerings from the twenty-one carts followed one another while the folkloric groups that accompanied them during the journey, which of course included dishes such as tuna, adobo and bread with chorizo, dedicated songs and dances to the ' queen of the seas'.
