An operator at the Alvedro Airport (La Coruña) has been seriously injured and has suffered the amputation of a leg while a Binter flight was carrying out previous maneuvers to take off bound for Gran Canaria.

An operator from the South Europe handling company at Alvedro Airport has been seriously injured while providing ground assistance prior to takeoff at La Coruña airport for a Binter flight bound for Gran Canaria.

The aircraft, an A320 operated by Binter, was doing push back during the takeoff procedure, when the operator was trapped under the tug and suffered serious injuries that led to the amputation of one of his legs.

The aircraft canceled takeoff immediately and the injured man was treated on the airfield runway. After assessing him at the scene, the emergency services transferred him to the University Hospital of La Coruña, where he had to undergo emergency surgery and one of his legs was amputated.

The operator is in serious but stable condition. The aircraft, after spending nearly two hours without moving on the airfield runway, was able to take off and arrive at the island, although with great shock among the passengers and crew due to the events experienced just before leaving Galician lands.
