The Provincial Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Las Palmas and the SPAR Gran Canaria supermarket chain have completed their first five years of collaboration. Today, both entities have renewed their commitment to continue developing projects that contribute to promoting healthy lifestyle habits and cancer prevention measures.
The agreement was signed by the president of the Provincial Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Las Palmas, Fernando Fraile, together with the president of SPAR Gran Canaria, Ángel Medina, during the celebration of one of the healthy cooking workshops that the Association organizes for its beneficiaries.
These healthy workshops are part of the actions that the chain continues to support and with which the Association seeks to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet to prevent diseases. So, SPAR Gran Canaria will continue to collaborate with the donation of food for these talks and also collaborate with the prevention and awareness campaigns that the Association organizes and that, through street actions, brings society closer to important dates such as World Anti-Drug Day. Cancer, World No Tobacco Day, the summer protection campaign to prevent skin cancer, the commemoration of World Research Day and World Breast Cancer Day.
The SPAR Gran Canaria wallet card service will be another of the initiatives in which both entities will collaborate again. The Association will continue to supply the wallet cards that the entity acquires from the chain for its users, especially those in vulnerable situations, thus facilitating the Association's access to healthy eating and making purchases in any of the 195 establishments. that SPAR Gran Canaria has a presence in the 21 municipalities of the island.
The Canarian supermarket chain will also continue to donate sugar-free candies, returning to deliver about 100 kilos of candies, which the Association's volunteers distribute during their work of accompaniment and psychological support to cancer patients and their families at the Association's headquarters, in the Hospital Insular de Gran Canaria, in the Maternal and Child Hospital and in the Doctor Negrín Hospital, in which the Association estimates to provide volunteer service to more than 12.000 beneficiaries.
Through collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, SPAR Gran Canaria also contributes to executing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations, directly impacting SDG 3, contributing to the prevention of diseases and the promotion of well-being, in SDG 9, promoting and enhancing scientific research in the fight against cancer, and in SDG 17, forging strategic alliances to achieve the objectives.
