The Government of the Canary Islands, through Proexca and its WEConnect International training and certification program, is attending the second matchmaking event in Spain of the WEConnect International brand with 14 businesswomen from the Canary Islands. Canarian businesswomen from diverse areas such as the financial sector or Romeral Laundry have held dozens of meetings and have analyzed the economic impact on the gender gap.
The Deputy Minister of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands and president of Proexca, Alfonso Cabello, has indicated that "we value the work carried out with a gender perspective in the business field and in internationalization. We want to generate more opportunities for women to be more competitive on the international scene and to work on improving the indicators of Canarian companies in this sense.
Yukonda Esparragoza, general director of Lavandería Industrial Romeral, this meeting is very important. “I want to project my business, giving it an international turn and professionalize my sector. The opportunity that WEConnect and Proexca give us is unique. We make the Canary Islands known and everything that women are capable of doing in different areas,” she says. Esparragoza has transformed the business model of her company, where she started as a worker 25 years ago. In 2018 she was recognized as the Best Laundry in Spain according to the International Committee of Textile Specialists CINET, and last year she won the territorial phase of the 'CaixaBank Business Woman Awards 2023' in the Canary Islands.
Approximately 150 attendees have participated in this second edition, which is held at the Royal Foundation of Toledo, and brings together women members of government agencies and organizations, international buyers, national leading businesswomen, for the sake of international female professional empowerment, especially in management and decision makers.
This event offers global networking meetings for these women. Companies such as Astrazeneca, Onet, Amazon, Diageo, Mondelez or Accenture are on the list of buyers who participate in person. But in addition, through the online platform Hubilo and WECommunity, an online portal that connects multinational buyers with women-owned businesses from more than 140 countries, women have the opportunity to forge valuable connections that can boost their network and business.
