The Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council has called a Walk against gender violence that will leave at 6 pm this Wednesday from the Plaza de Balos in the direction of the Plaza de los Algodoneros, on Avenida de Canarias, where it will be read a manifesto on the occasion of November 25, International Day against Gender Violence. As part of this year's awareness campaign, this Tuesday staff from the Equality area and representatives of feminist groups in the municipality distributed napkins among the restaurants in the pedestrian zone with the motto "Free from gender violence."

The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García and the Councilor for Equality, Minerva Pérez, accompanied municipal workers and representatives of the Liluva and Valentina groups in the distribution of napkins. The first mayor explained that "this is one of the events that are being carried out this week by the Equality area, which throughout the year is doing very important work by going to educational centers to raise awareness among the youngest." The mayor recalled that “a study by the University of La Laguna was recently published that indicated that half of young people deny sexist violence, although only young people from Tenerife were interviewed, I am sure that the data here must be similar, that is why I believe that awareness campaigns continue to be necessary, and they should not only be carried out by institutions, but also by educational centers, feminist groups and society as a whole.”

The councilor "we have seen that gender violence has increased during the pandemic, that there are still many cases that are silenced, that is why we insist on these campaigns because we want Santa Lucía de Tirajana to become a municipality free of gender violence."

The program of the Equality area on the occasion of this November 25 continues this Wednesday with the Walk against gender violence that will leave from the Plaza de Balos in the direction of Avenida de Canarias. The march will end in the Plaza de Los Algodoneros, where a manifesto against gender violence will be read. On Thursday there will be the demonstration in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Equality area provides a bus that will leave from the Municipal Pavilion, to sign up you have to call the Center for Equality telephone number 928 75 87 46. The program of events ends on Friday November 26 with the presentation of the Campaign against gender violence in municipal transportation.
