Cabildo de Gran Canaria and Agüimes City Council signed this Tuesday the collaboration agreement that will allow Infecar to move its activity to the Cruce de Arinaga site for at least the next two years.
The Agüimes Fairgrounds will host the events and activities of the Canary Islands Fair Institution (Infecar) for at least the next two years, while the remodeling works on its facilities at the Atlantic Fair last. This is reflected in the collaboration agreement signed this Tuesday by the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, and the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, through which the City Council will transfer the new Fairgrounds of the municipality to Infecar for shared use along with the activities programmed by the local administration.
The agreement will allow continuity of the Cabildo's events to promote the economic and social development of Gran Canaria, a total of twelve annual fairs - Fisaldo, Planeta GC, Gran Canaria Me Gusta, Animundo or the Electric Vehicle Show among them - and multitude of parallel activities on an island, national and international level. Both the mayor of Agüimes and the president of the Cabildo highly valued an agreement that, in their opinion, will be beneficial for the interests of both parties and for Gran Canaria society in general, by opening up the opportunity to decentralize fair activities and bring them closer to an area of the island with great economic attractions, strategically located halfway between the capital and the tourist south.
The Agüimes Fairgrounds are located on a municipal plot of more than 10.000 m2, strategically located at the Arinaga Crossing, very close to the GC-1 highway and the Industrial Zone. It has large parking areas and is surrounded by gardens and green areas, right next to the Cruce de Arinaga Urban Park. The interior space, of almost 4.000 m2, is completely open and versatile, suitable for hosting events and activities of different types, such as agricultural markets, fairs, social events or concerts.
The transfer of Infecar's activity to the Southeast will coincide in time with the transformation work of its headquarters at the Atlantic Fair, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in order to create a more versatile, sustainable and competitive space. Among the actions to be carried out, a new and emblematic exhibition pavilion of 7.500 square meters stands out, of a multipurpose nature, which due to its dimensions, design and usability is destined to become an iconic building in the capital. Access will also be improved, technical facilities will be modernized, buildings will be adapted to the new demands of environmental sustainability and a regenerative urban planning strategy will be carried out, with the aim of contributing to the general improvement of the surrounding neighborhoods.
