The Gran Canaria team defeated CL Tao in the final by 12 to 7
The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, and the Minister of Sports, Aridany Romero, received this Tuesday the Club Lucha Castillo, which has recently been proclaimed regional champion of the Cajasiete Second Category Canarian Wrestling Tournament by defeating 12 to 7 to CL Tao (Lanzarote).
This is not the only title that the Gran Canaria team achieves this season, since it was also proclaimed champion of the La Caja de Canarias Foundation Cup and runner-up of the Gran Canaria Cabildo League. In addition, this week he will compete in the final of the Dielca deLucha Corrida tournament.
In this regard, the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has congratulated CLCastillo, and has stated that "behind these achievements there is an enormous effort and a board that believes in our vernacular sport."
“The Cabildo of Gran Canaria is making a huge effort to highlight the Canarian wrestling,” and that means that “the island will have representatives in the three categories next season,” added Morales.
For his part, the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Aridany Romero, recalled that “the first political action that was carried out by the Government of the Island in this legislature was to sign the agreement to promote Canarian wrestling in Gran Canaria", and that "was no coincidence", since "not only did we set the goal of recovering the First Category to the island, but we also believe that it is essential to bring this sport closer to the boys and girls of the 21 municipalities of Gran Canaria”.
"In these four years we are going to invest more than 3,4 million in the Canary Islands wrestling", both in "initiation, as well as in the School, and in promoting senior men and women", without leaving aside the rest of the categories, because “Canarian wrestling is a sporting spectacle aligned with our culture and our identity values,” and therefore, “we safeguard it from the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.”
The wrestlers from the Castillo Wrestling Club have been accompanied during the reception by the president of the Canary Islands Inter-Insular Wrestling Federation, Enrique Rodríguez, and the president of the club, Pacuco Guedes.
