Francisco García assumes the presidency of the Commonwealth of the Southeast

Councilors from the Cabildo and the mayors of Santa Brígida and Valleseco were at the event.

 

The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, took office this Wednesday as the new president of the Commonwealth of the Southeast. The first mayor of Santa Lucia succeeds the mayor of Agüimes in the presidency of the Commonwealth that he will hold for the next 12 months. The inauguration ceremony held in municipal offices was attended by, in addition to mayors, councilors of the three municipalities, the Minister of Institutional Cooperation of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Carmelo Ramírez and the Employment Minister of the Insular Corporation, Juan Díaz, The mayor of Santa Brígida, José Miguel Bravo de Laguna, and the president of the Commonwealth of the North and mayor of Valleseco, José Luis Rodríguez, were also representing the Commonwealth of Medianías.  

 

 The new president of the Commonwealth, Francisco García, stated that “in these 30 years of life of the Commonwealth we have been able to become an example of efficient and supportive management, we have been an example at an international level on the way of making public policies with the sole objective of improve the lives of our neighbors, and we are going to continue along the path of sustainable development.” "In this last year alone - García added - we have taken such important measures as the contract to supply waste containers for 2 million euros, we have also launched a community composting project in educational centers, and we have increased the capacity of our photovoltaic plant, we are going to expand the desalination capacity with an investment of 4 million euros contributed by the Cabildo and we have increased the renewable energy charging points.” 

 

The outgoing president, Oscar Hernández, stated that “this change is like an obstacle course where the relay always remains with the constant will of the momentum of this region.” The mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, who assumes the first vice presidency of the Commonwealth, stated that "from the three municipalities we will continue to work together to promote the social and economic development of the Southeastern Commonwealth."
