Santiago offers his blessing to the ranchers in Tunte

For the first time, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock organized this Wednesday the traditional livestock fair of the Santiago Apóstol Festival in the historic center of the Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It established 26 categories and distributed 8.000 euros in prizes among 98 horses.

 

The historic center of the Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana hosted this Wednesday with great expectation the traditional livestock fair that is held annually within the framework of the Patron Saint Festivities of Santiago Apóstol and specifically on the eve of the saint. 

 

For the first time in its long history, this edition of the fair was organized entirely by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock led by the eighth deputy mayor, Araceli Armas Cruz, who scheduled all the details of the event in accordance with the provisions of Law 7 /2023 of March 28, protection of the rights and welfare of animals.

 

To promote local and foreign livestock participation, the Department stipulated a total of 26 categories of cattle, horses, goats and sheep, and set an amount of 8.070 euros to distribute in stages in prizes to the best 98 specimens according to the criteria and technical opinion of the veterinary team that acted as jury. 

 

Furthermore, with the same incentive objective, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock also established different financial aid of between 50 and 25 euros to facilitate the transportation of the animals, and provided a breakfast of entertainment to all the contestants that was prepared and served by the 15 students of the Training Program for Alternation with Employment (PFAE) 'Cocktails', launched by the Department of Local Development of this City Council with specific modules on techniques for preparing and serving food and drinks.

 

For the specific supply of the animals, the Department had the selfless collaboration of the Compañía Canaria de Piens SA (Capisa), which donated 30 bags of 10 kilos of millet, oats and a mixture of feed for the horses for the celebration of this fair. .

 

The numerous spectators and followers of the Fair, where a large presence of children stood out, were able to enjoy the exhibition of the livestock between 10:30 and 12:00, the time at which the traditional blessing procession of the award-winning animals gradually began. before the equestrian icon of Santiago Apóstol, at the doors of the Church. The awards to the owners and caretakers of the best heads of livestock were personally presented by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez and members of his government team.
