The battle for water on demand in the office and tourism sector in the south of Gran Canaria maintains a cold war between Aguacana, Aguas de Teror and Firgas. Aguacana supplies the employees of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council with 76.000 euros and the users of the South Area complex of the Insular Hospital for 359.000 euros, and Aquaservice, which has declared that it has "springs" in the Canary Islands; but currently operates in SMEs and home delivery. Aguacana, which sells products under the Fuente Umbría de Gáldar brand and would produce white brands, one of the coveted Gran Canaria springs and which was once called Fuente Bruma, keeps Aquaservice at bay in this market segment that is timidly growing. This business has a very high industrial margin although the OCU warns: "what Aquaservice offers is a water with low mineralization, but unbalanced, it hardly has any minerals."
The half-goth company Aguacana, owned by Román Altuna Igartua, owner of the San Roque deposit, Valsequillo, where the company has its tax headquarters, which in 2023 had a profit of 1,7 million euros compared to 521.142 euros in 2022, the AA .PP represent just over 500.000 euros of business and the inter-island transportation of merchandise is subsidized by Brussels. The also goth company Aquaservice, for its part, is a monster: dedicated to the distribution of bottled water with a dispenser in Spain, it closed the 2023 financial year with a turnover of 237 million euros, which represents an increase of 18,4% compared to to the previous year. Aquaservice confirmed this Wednesday that it has seven production centers located in natural mineral water springs throughout the peninsula "and the Canary Islands."
Where are the Aquaservice springs in the Canary Islands? It is not known. The Valencian company assures that its bottles contain water from several springs (Camporrobles, Cogollos de Guadix, Virgen del Camino, Ribagorza, Ingenio). Aguacana's engineering has generated knowledge of the internal market that changes hands the least expected day, as would happen with all the companies in Asinca's orbit that have protected themselves with a tariff and access sequenced and permanent state aid. The OCU says in June 2024: there are operators who "label themselves as a refreshing drink because what they sell is water purified by reverse osmosis and sterilized by ozone. And this makes it clear that it is not natural spring water, which cannot be treated or can modify its composition.
