Next July 29, Maspalomas Costa Canaria will dress up to honor Santa Marta, the patron saint of hospitality workers. This year, the celebration takes on a special meaning by recovering the distinctions for hospitality professionals, a tradition that highlights the importance of a vital sector for the economy and culture of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria and the country as it is. the service sector.

 

The festival of Santa Marta is an occasion to recognize and thank the work of cooks, waiters, housewives, bartenders, housekeepers and other hospitality professionals. Every July 29, both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches celebrate this holiday, remembering the hospitality and service of Saint Martha. In Maspalomas, this tradition is revitalized with a series of activities organized by the Department of Tourism of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, a municipality that stands out for its great tourist offer and its significant contribution to the island's GDP, together with the associations the Spanish Association of Hotel Managers and Other Entities (ASEGO), the Autonomous Association of Bartenders of the Canary Islands and the Association of Chefs, Pastry Chefs and Bakers, Jilorio.

 

Activities for Everyone

 

The day will begin at 18:00 p.m. with a religious service at the El Salvador Ecumenical Temple, in Playa del Inglés. This act of faith will be accompanied by the delivery of non-perishable products, generously donated by various hotel chains, in the image of Santa Marta, which will be distributed to NGOs. In addition, the first edition of the Canary Islands Santa Marta Hospitality Awards will be held, recognizing the most outstanding professionals in various categories of the sector and the housekeepers for their "greatest seniority in the company" and for being "best valued by clients and their colleagues.

 

Furthermore, among the most anticipated events is the Cooking Show organized by the Jilorio Association, where the first Maspalomas Costa Canaria dish will be presented. No less important will be the creation of a special cocktail with the same name, prepared by the Autonomous Association of Bartenders of the Canary Islands. Attendees will also be able to enjoy a tasting of Canarian products and a musical performance that will liven up the afternoon.
