The City Council acquires 8 new vehicles that will speed up and reduce response times in the provision of services, especially in the middle areas
The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has begun to renew the mobile fleet of its Fire Fighting and Rescue Service (SEIS), paying special attention to preventive needs and possible immediate actions that the fire department would have to undertake in the area. outskirts of Maspalomas, especially in the most remote and orographically problematic areas of the midlands of the municipality.
With this objective, the Department of Security and Emergencies directed by the sixth deputy mayor, José Carlos Álamo Ojeda, has acquired a Various Rescue Van (FSV) on a truck, a command vehicle and a Heavy Urban Bomb (BUP), and also two pick-up vehicles for mountain rescue and traffic accidents, a Light Urban Pump (BUL), and two mountain bikes for search and rescue, in the supply of which a total public investment of €1.500.000 has been made.
A part of these vehicles, specifically those for immediate response, are already at the full disposal of the SEIS troops and were presented this Friday by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, Councilor José Carlos Álamo and the Chief of Firefighters, José Felipe Santana Rodríguez , in the center of the Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
This is the FSV van fully equipped for all types of land and mountain surface rescues, including stretchers, ropes and the necessary equipment and tools for actions on slopes and ravines and rescue at heights, and with equipment for vehicle traffic accidents. heavy goods, dangerous goods and electrical risk among others; the heavy pump, equipped with a quick discharge gate and a 7.000 liter pool; and the command vehicle and the two motorcycles of the motorized search and rescue unit, also with the necessary equipment for emergency interventions.
The rest of the vehicles, the two pick-ups and the light bomb, are still in the process of manufacturing and adapting to the services requested by the Department of Safety. "The first two are already on the assembly line in Madrid and it is expected that this city council will be able to receive them during the month of September, while the light bomb, whose chassis is made in Ukraine and must still pass through Madrid for the incorporation of its benefits, it is estimated that it could arrive at the municipality at the end of October or the beginning of November," according to the mayor and the chief of firefighters.
Need for modernization
In the presentation, José Carlos Álamo highlighted that this renewal of the SEIS fleet responds to a need to update and modernize the service and its equipment detected and recommended by the leadership of the fire department itself “to speed up and shorten the response times that They require their deployment both in the vicinity of Maspalomas and in more remote areas, where the efforts that must be made to try to reduce the serious damage caused by incidents are much greater."
“From the municipal government and specifically from the Department of Security and Emergencies we have proposed as a priority objective to increase the efficiency of this public service, and for that we are insisting that the firefighters themselves be the ones who determine the real needs of the body and participate directly in the process of specialized and advanced equipment that their different actions require,” says José Carlos Álamo.
The councilor for Security and Emergencies also revealed that in this “important supply”, whose administrative public bidding procedure began in the middle of last year, the City Council has achieved savings of more than 74.000 euros.
