The harvest in Agüimes is brought forward due to high temperatures

MASPALOMAS24H Saturday, July 27, 2024

The Señorío de Agüimes Municipal Winery has concluded the 2024 harvest with a harvest of 1.300 kilograms of grapes, which represents a decrease of 43,48% compared to the previous year. Although the quantity has been smaller, the quality of the grapes harvested has been exceptional.

The high temperatures recorded on the island, especially in the Southeast area, have brought forward the start of the harvest in Agüimes. This year the municipality's winegrowers were among the first in Gran Canaria to begin harvesting, which traditionally takes place in mid-August. The harvest at the Señorío de Agüimes Municipal Winery was completed this Friday, with a total harvest of 1.300 kilos of grapes, which represents a reduction of 43,48% compared to the previous year's harvest.

The advance in harvesting is due to the rapid ripening process of the fruit, accelerated by the high temperatures in the area. Despite lower production, the technicians at the municipal winery assure that the quality of the Señorío de Agüimes wine will be excellent. Local winegrowers, with their dedication and care throughout the year, guarantee that the quality of Señorío de Agüimes wines will remain at a high level. The new vintage, which this time will be dry white wine, will be ready at the end of November.

Since the launch of the municipal winery in 2000, this project of the Agüimes City Council has revitalized grape cultivation in the area, promoting economic diversification and local development. In these 24 years, 'Señorío de Agüimes' wines have received more than thirty awards at the island, national and international level.
