The XVII Eufemiano Verde Swimming Trip Playa de Mogán – Taurito – Playa de Mogán was held on Saturday, July 27 with all the places covered
Clear skies and heat were complemented by the cool and calm waters of the municipality. Those registered took off at 9:30 a.m. to swim the 2.400 meters that separate Playa de Mogán from Taurito beach and link it back to the first. Thus, in the men's category, the victory went to Yaré Cocera Cordón, from the Metropole Swimming Club, with a time of 28 minutes and 59 seconds. Second place on the podium is occupied by Nikolai Neslin (00:30:36), from Finnsnes Svømme Klubb, and third place by Jeremy Tomás Peña (00:30:44), from the Germany club.
In the women's general, the first swimmer to cross the finish line on Mogán beach was Elena Sarmiento, from the Gordillo Swim&Train Maspalomas Club. She did it in a time of 33 minutes and 33 seconds. In second position was Sheila Pulido (00:33:35), from the Faynagua Ciudad de Telde Swimming Club, and in third was Laura Pérez (00:37:35), from the Faynagua Swimming Club.
The festive atmosphere predominated throughout the day. The activity began at 8:00 a.m. with the delivery of numbers. Since then, participants and audiences have been gathering. The Councilor for Sports, Luis Becerra, and other councilors of the Local Corporation were not missing from the event, who did not hesitate to encourage all the swimmers both at their start and at their arrival at the finish line.
“The Eufemiano Verde Swimming Journey has achieved new success with this edition,” said Becerra, highlighting that a few weeks ago the City Council reported on its social media profiles that the 200 available places had been filled. But in addition, according to the councilor, “there have also been almost double the number of registered men and women in the children's categories, compared to 2023.”
Precisely, the smallest ones, a total of 40, were protagonists in several circuits delimited by buoys in the bay of Mogán beach from 11:00 am. The boys and girls participated distributed by age range. The minors in the pre-child category – 7 and 8 years old – and the youngest category – 9 and 10 years old – competed in a distance of 50 meters, while those 11 and 12 years old in the juvenile category did so in the 100 meter distance. and those in the children's category – 13 and 14 years old – in the 150 meters.
For the mayor, the excellent level of participation "is indicative that we have the future of open waters guaranteed and that our commitment to grassroots sport is firm." Likewise, he highlighted “the great conditions that all participants have been able to enjoy in this event tomorrow, with a sporting event framed in the Carmen festivities of Playa de Mogán.”
During the day, a 'Solar Patrol' from the Spanish Association Against Cancer joined in Las Palmas to raise awareness among those present about the prevention of skin cancer.
