The hotel offer in the economic capital of the Canary Islands has clearly saved the 2030 World Cup bid. And in Las Palmas they have been able to recognize this fact by placing a training camp in the south of Gran Canaria for some of the national teams that will play in the island. Thus, the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria have agreed to propose to FIFA that Maspalomas be the training venue for one of the four teams that will play on the island in the 2030 World Cup. The island institution will modernize the municipal stadium from Maspalomas since preparation will be done before the matches at the Siete Palmas field, where UD Las Palmas plays
"The renovations of the three football fields will be financed through an additional investment plan. These renovations are in addition to the one that will be carried out at the Gran Canaria Stadium, which will require an investment of 107 million euros, 101,1 for the expansion and 5,8 million more for the drafting of the project and the project management of the work," according to RTVC. These works will be carried out over a period of two years to be completed in 2027.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) proposed 11 stadiums as candidates to host matches during the 2030 World Cup, including the one in Gran Canaria. Spain, which will co-host the tournament with Portugal and Morocco, as well as centenary hosts Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, will also have 45 additional venues that will serve as bases for the teams. To define the venues, all possibilities have been analyzed, including expanding up to 13, an option that must be taken unanimously by the three federations," the RFEF said in a statement. The tournament will have a maximum of 20 venues, the RFEF added. RFEF Co-host country Morocco announced plans last year to build a stadium near Casablanca and modernize six others before the World Cup.
