Parks and Gardens and Roads and Works undertake a new landscape recovery campaign in the public sphere of the tourist area
The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana continues to intensify landscaping action campaigns in large public green areas of the municipality that today present high environmental degradation caused by abandonment, lack of maintenance and irrigation, which they have suffered for many years. .
These campaigns, planned by the departments of Parks and Gardens and Roads and Works directed by Araceli Armas Cruz and coordinated by councilor Eduardo Armas Herrera, were launched approximately a year ago and have intensified during the last six months after the collaboration agreement signed by the City Council and Foresta.
Specifically, the latest environmental restoration action that is being carried out began this Monday in the tourist area of Meloneras 2-B, limited for the moment to the deep cleaning of the soils and groves of the most open spaces and public green areas. close to the San Roque Maspalomas hospital center and the Cruce del Faro gas station.
In this campaign, which currently affects about 28.800 m², some 8 municipal workers from the Departments of Parks and Gardens and Roads and Works, and a team from the Employment Plan agreed by the City Council and Forest, are acting actively and in a coordinated manner. . The services of the Department of Cleaning are also collaborating in this action. In addition, this Wednesday a patrol of Local Police agents had to intervene in the operation to be able to lift and remove a shanty and garbage from an irregular settlement from the area.
According to councilor Eduardo Armas Herrera, the Meloneras environmental restoration campaign has as its first step the cleaning of all types of garbage, and also the clearing, pruning and removal of all damaged and diseased palm trees to prevent them from continuing to transmit the plague. And as a second step, estimated at the end of September, when the weather is much more favorable, the replanting of the areas of action with ornamental trees such as jacarandas, flamboyant trees and ficuses that will provide greater attractiveness and fewer maintenance problems once grown. , and the complete restoration and automation of the entire irrigation system.
