Masaveu and Votoratim cement plant enters a 3D robotics project in the south of Gran Canaria

The technology company specialized in the cement fixed assets sector Evocons has launched EvoConstructor, a unique device in the world that promises to revolutionize the construction sector and the cement company of El Pajar, in the south of Gran Canaria owned by Corporación, participates in it. Masaveu and Votorantim. The tool has been patented within the framework of an R&D&I pilot project, which incorporates three-dimensional printing, robotics and machine learning into work methods – a branch of artificial intelligence that equips machines. of learning capacity through algorithms. With this combination, the process is automated and digitalized on the job itself, allowing each of the tasks involved in the construction of a building to be controlled to the millimeter.

The system, composed of a robotic gantry and a series of auxiliary systems, allows a 3D model to be transformed into a physical structure. The machine prints the foundation formwork and then the reinforcement is manually placed, concreted and the ground leveled. Next, the walls of the building, including interior partitions and window openings, are printed, layer by layer, until the desired height is reached. The process ends with the automated placement of tiles or pavement.

One of the main advantages of this innovative manufacturing method is that 60% of the construction process is automated, which allows several functions to be performed at the same time with much simpler machines than conventional ones and to work more efficiently. This reduces costs by 30% and considerably reduces construction execution times, which also translates into a lower environmental impact.

This technology, in which other companies in the construction sector such as Ceisa and Prearsa collaborate, is being tested in a work by the Conservation Entity of the Arinaga Industrial Zone (Ecoaga). The work is being carried out on a plot on Calle de la Fragua in the Industrial Zone, right next to the Lidl commercial space. The infrastructure, which will be the first in the world to be carried out through this method, will be used for the development of its activities. This facility will open its doors at the end of 2024 and will be equipped with a cultural and exhibition hall, a garden space, bathrooms and changing rooms.
