Tunte is preparing to celebrate the traditional Patronal and Municipal Festivities in honor of San Bartolomé. From August 15 to the 25th, the capital of San Bartolomé de Tirajana once again decks itself to honor the patron saint of the municipality in a celebration that reflects the culture and traditions of the Island. The programming, prepared by the Department of Celebrations and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, directed by Yilenia Vega, will include a wide range of activities adapted to all audiences. As he has highlighted, the importance of these Patron Saint Festivities is that with them "traditions are made known while our customs and culture are valued, which is essential to keep our socio-cultural heritage alive."
The events began yesterday afternoon, on Wednesday, August 14, with a day of physical activity in which a soccer triangle will be held at the Las Lagunas Sports City, complemented on the 15th with a futsal tournament on the field of the town and games for the little ones in the house. On Friday the 16th, there will be a baking contest that will promote the culinary traditions of the area and a cart race from the cemetery, down El Risco. On Saturday, from 20:00 p.m., the second edition of the Pilgrimage in Honor of Saint Bartholomew will take place with the participation of various carts and folk groups. The night will be enlivened by the rhythm of music and will culminate with the Verbena del Rosemary.
To continue, traditional music and native customs will liven up the afternoon of Sunday the 18th at the Medianías del Timple concert, organized by the Commonwealth of Medianías and which will be led by the timplista Germán López, with the collaboration of Yuniel Rascón and Carla Vega. Likewise, recognition will be given to Mari Carmen Pérez Pérez for her work and collaboration both in the parish and in her hometown, Tunte.
From Monday, August 19 to Wednesday, August 21, the afternoons will be enlivened with children's games in the square, so that the little ones can enjoy days of coexistence and fun. On Thursday the program will continue with the foam party from 18:00 p.m., to culminate the night with the now traditional soccer match between single and married couples on the town field. On Friday the 23rd, the Gran Bajada del Carbonero will be celebrated, from the Plaza del Carbonero in Las Lagunas to the Plaza de Santiago de Tunte, accompanied by the Agaete Band, an event that pays tribute to all our ancestors and preserves historical customs. The night will end with a dawn festival.
On Saturday the 24th, as a tribute to Saint Bartholomew's Day, the flowered reveille will announce the holiday through the streets of the capital of Tirajana from 5:00 in the morning, and from 12:00 the solemn Eucharist will be celebrated with the participation of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Cultural Association, and the subsequent procession. Once completed, the traditional Canarian sancocho will take place in the square, accompanied by the now traditional 'August Rains' festival with the Armonía Show Orchestra. On Sunday the 25th, the program will culminate with the stellar performance of Pedro Manuel Afonso, with the show 'Leyendas'.
