By means of this letter, we want to record our deepest complaint and concern about the critical situation that has been experienced in the beautiful area of Molino de Agua in Fataga, Gran Canaria, a place that for years was synonymous with magic, nature and a true paradise for its inhabitants and visitors.

In March 2019, a devastating fire consumed the emblematic Molino de Agua palm grove. This place was not only an idyllic landscape, but also the livelihood of some 30 families who depended on the activities carried out in its facilities, which included a charming rural hotel, a renowned restaurant, spaces for spiritual retreats, and adventure parks for young people. , and many other activities that supported a vibrant local economy.

The tragedy that struck us back then not only took with it the paradise we knew, but also destroyed the dreams and illusions of those who depended on it. The fire, uncontrolled and ferocious, destroyed the life of a palm grove that, in addition to being a natural jewel with centuries-old palm trees, was a symbol of the strength and vitality of the island. However, and what is most outrageous, the response of the authorities, specifically the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, was absolutely insufficient. Despite repeated requests and efforts to assume responsibility and take preventive measures, there was not a single gesture that demonstrated a commitment to protect and recover what had been lost.

Despite the devastation, there was hope to be reborn from the ashes, but the reality is that they were only false illusions. The indifference and negligence of those responsible have left a deep void that has once again manifested itself in a tragic way.
On August 17, 2024, more than five years after that first fire, history repeated itself. A new ravenous fire has once again consumed the palm grove, and once again, the consequences are devastating for the environment, the families and the future of this area. The same incompetence, the same lack of responsibility and foresight have allowed another disaster to occur. The victims, this time, are others, but the pattern of irresponsibility remains intact.

It is inconceivable that, after so many years of warnings and requests for appropriate measures to be taken, the authorities continue to act with the same apathy and carelessness. We have grown tired of asking for compliance, and tragedy has shown that inaction has devastating consequences.

We demand that justice be done. That those responsible for this chain of disasters assume their responsibility effectively and respond for the damage caused. Not only do we want to see immediate actions to prevent this situation from happening again, but we also demand that the damage and suffering caused be compensated. Let those responsible pay from their own pockets if necessary, because only then will real justice be served to the victims.
