From October 3, Meloneras will host the performances of this production that arrives in Gran Canaria with the collaboration of the Cabildo
The Big Top of Cirque du Soleil was raised today under the blue sky of southern Gran Canaria, in Meloneras, to host the performances of the show 'Bazzar' starting on October 3, an eclectic tribute to the origins and legacy of the Canadian company in its 40th anniversary that lands on the island with the collaboration of the Cabildo, through the areas of Presidency and Tourism, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Lopesan Hotel Group.
A team of 85 men and women has been working for the last few days to nail the hooks, unfold the tarp and push the more than 100 poles that support the Big Top. A special moment that marks the arrival of Cirque du Soleil to the island and which, on this occasion, marks the first time that 'Bazzar' visits Europe and the company's second stay in Gran Canaria after the one that took place in 2019 with 'Totem'.
The Minister of Territorial Policy and Landscape of the Cabildo, Inés Miranda, highlighted that for the Cabildo and for the island it is great news that the company is settling in Gran Canaria and also stressed the “cultural enrichment” that it represents, as well as its contribution to the harmonization policies of the insular Government.
“We are completely sure that it will be a success, not only on a tourist level, but also for the residents of Gran Canaria and the rest of the Canary Islands, as happened last time, when there were people, people moved from other places. points from Spain to the island to contemplate a type of show that is something different, because it is art,” he said.
For his part, the Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo, Carlos Álamo, stated that “this is a proposal with enormous media impact and a very interesting promotional claim for the island, this being an entity or a brand of cultural shows that is among the best known and most valued on the planet, with a guarantee of quality and that comes to the island with a proposal of those for which people buy a plane ticket so as not to miss it.”
“The Canarians know this well, as they constantly have to go to Barcelona, Madrid or London to see a concert or a musical of international importance. Now we will try to make it the other way around, so that others come to Gran Canaria and also get to know us through the brand, the popularity and also the creativity of the Circo del Sol,” Álamo added.
Álamo emphasized that the presence “reinforces our commitment to improving the destination's offering, as a setting for unique and high-quality cultural proposals. But above all, we trust that this proposal will have an impact on the destination's turnover and the objective that we set for ourselves several years ago, as reflected in Strategy 21-25, in which we prioritize turnover and spending over the volume of visitors. ”.
“To do this, our tourists have to find enough reasons to come and once here, also enough reasons to spend at the destination, in our restaurants, shops and our leisure offering. In this sense, the proposal of the Cirque du Soleil and the entire economy that it generates around it is, without a doubt, an important tool. We will work on some of our main markets, such as the Peninsula and different European markets, giving priority among them to the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark,” he highlighted.
Seven days for complete assembly
The tour director, Franck Hanselman, explained today to the media that the complete assembly of the venue will take seven days. This includes the installation of the Big Tent, the access tent, the VIP tents and the artistic or rehearsal tent.
In addition, he specified that the main tent measures 18 meters high and 41 meters in diameter, as well as that the four steel masts measure 22 meters high each. 300 hooks are needed to hold the tent firmly and the tent can withstand winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
The light-colored canvas helps counteract solar effects, thereby reducing energy consumption and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Likewise, he reported that the assembly has traveled in 59 containers that transport nearly 700 tons of material. More than seventy people from Gran Canaria itself have also been hired.
The show 'Bazzar'
Cirque du Soleil's 'Bazzar' is presented as an eclectic laboratory of inexhaustible creativity in which a joyful group of acrobats, dancers and musicians come together to create a fascinating spectacle. The colorful cast of characters gather in a quirky world under the direction of a fun-loving Master.
The company reimagines, reconstructs and reinvents vibrant stages in an environment where audiences can witness firsthand the artistic and athletic magic that gave birth to Cirque du Soleil. Created in 2018, it is the 43rd original Cirque du Soleil production.
In addition to 12 jaw-dropping circus acts such as see-saw, acrobatic bike, trapeze, fire manipulation and hair suspension, the show also features Mallakhamb, a traditional Indian sport that combines aerial yoga and gymnastics and is a first. of Cirque du Soleil in terms of its performance on stage.
