The airline Sundair will begin flights from October to Gran Canaria originating in Münster, as confirmed this Monday to Maspalomas24H by a source from the sector. Starting in November, the airline will also offer flights from Münster-Osnabrück Airport (FMO) for the first time and will park an A319 at Greven Airport. Passengers can then fly from FMO with Sundair to Gran Canaria. Sundair will continue to provide service to Gran Canaria and Hurghada from the airports mentioned above. In addition to the FMO, in winter the departure airports are the well-known bases of Berlin, Dresden and Bremen.
The tourist destination of Gran Canaria will also have a reinforcement in its connectivity from Germany thanks to Ryanair's commitment from the Frankfurt Hahn aerodrome in Germany. This responds to the increase in German customers seen in the island destination since 2023. Ryanair has also increased its connectivity with the island of Gran Canaria for the winter season of 2024 and 2025. In this case, the Irish airline has reported that it is reopening the route between Frankfurt Hahn, which was closed in March 2019.
"This is a reinforcement that will increase the good moment in connectivity from Germany," says the Tourism Minister of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, who explains that the increase in travel options and routes opened in recent years is allowing prices and costs to move to Gran Canaria to spend the holidays to be reduced, which benefits the destination because the client has a larger budget to spend on their stay and thereby increase the turnover and the island economy, as "It has already been confirmed in tourist spending in 2024."
