Arinaga will host this Friday, August 30, the 28th edition of La Vará del Pescao. The traditional event, which pays tribute to the seafaring past of the coastal town, will begin at 17:30 p.m. at the Aid Post on Avenida de Los Pescadores with the music of the folklore groups Tabaiba and Merita la Pena. At 18:00 p.m. the boat with the fish is scheduled to arrive and subsequently the pilgrimage will be held along the entire avenue, beginning the route in the Risco Verde area.
Along the way, about 1.000 kilos of grilled sardines will be distributed at stands located in Soco Negro, in the Cascahuesos area, near the old La Barca restaurant and in Risco Verde. This last location will be reserved for people with reduced mobility who wish to enjoy the party.
The festive events will continue in the square at night, starting at 22:00 p.m., with the festival enlivened by Star Music and Grupo Arena. The fireworks from the Pier, the culmination of La Vará, will arrive at 23:00 p.m. After the pyrotechnic show, the music will start on the avenue, both in the Ficus area, with performances by Yeray Socorro and Apolo GC, and in the vicinity of the Aid Post, with DJ Antonio Boada.

During the Vará del Pescao, barbecues will be allowed in the beach areas. However, it will be completely prohibited on public roads and in those spaces marked with prohibition signs. Some of them will be the Soco Negro solarium area, where the wooden platforms, surveillance posts or near any flammable element are located. The use of electronic devices that reproduce music or other types of sounds will also not be permitted on the beaches or on public roads.
Safe transportation
To facilitate safe transportation during the La Vará festival, a special bus service will be available. The timetable can be found on the municipal website aguimes.es/movilidad/ . The bus stop will be located at the entrance to Arinaga, in the parking area next to the Urban Park. A temporary taxi rank will also be located a few meters away, at the main access roundabout, to further facilitate the use of public transportation.
Those who prefer to go to the party in their own vehicle must park in one of the 1.000 parking spaces that will be available in the Industrial Park, the Canal, the Sports Center, the Municipal Grounds, in the parking area located on the corner of the streets. Almirante Arriaga and Juan de Lazaga and the one located in front of the Muelle Viejo beach. In the area around the Senior Center, located on Lópe de Hoces Street, parking spaces will be reserved for people with reduced mobility.
On the occasion of the celebration of the Vará del Pescao, between 14:00 p.m. on Friday the 30th and 07:00 a.m. on Saturday the 31st there will be closures on Avenida Polizón and the surrounding streets. In addition, starting at 23:30 p.m., the section of the GC-100 that goes from the Montaña de San Francisco roundabout to the lighthouse roundabout will be enabled for the exclusive transit of public transport vehicles. As an alternative, the rest will be able to access Arinaga through Las Palmeras and Los Olivos streets in the Industrial Zone. The Agüimes City Council asks the population to remain attentive to the traffic signs that will be placed at different points in the coastal area.
