The Government Council approved this Monday the agreement between the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports and the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana for the expansion of the Secondary Education Institute (IES) El Tablero-Aguañac. The document provides for the construction of 12 new classrooms in a building that will be built within the plot currently occupied by the educational center, specifically, in the area that once housed the teachers' homes.
To make this possible, and in accordance with the agreement, the Government of the Canary Islands will transfer 1,6 million euros to the southern City Council, which will be responsible for executing the project. In addition, the investment will be made in two annual instalments, so the budget will be divided between the remainder of the year (419.882,37 euros) and 2025 (1,2 million).
The works will provide facilities that improve the conditions in which the students of this Gran Canarian municipality receive their education, which will result in the improvement of educational activity in the area. The agreement is the result of the agreement reached at the time by the regional councillor for Education, Poli Suárez, and the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, after a visit to the centre and the former Enrique Jorge special education school, where, on a provisional basis, but for years now, high school education has been provided.
During that visit, both leaders noted the state of the facilities and the need to expand the IES El Tablero, whose current classrooms are insufficient to respond to the foreseeable increase in the school population in the coming years, especially in the case of having to accommodate the students of Enrique Jorge while a new institute is being built.
