The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, Luis Padrón, assumes the presidency of the General Council of Chambers of the Canary Islands from today, after the end of the mandate of Santiago Sesé, current president of the Chamber of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The General Council of Chambers of the Canary Islands was established last January, as an instrument of coordination and intermediary between the autonomous administration and the territorial Chambers.

This appointment, which corresponds to a new period of 7 months, is established according to the agreement reached last January with the Government of the Canary Islands, which exercises the guardianship of the Chambers.

In this regard, Luis Padrón stated that the General Council of Canary Chambers is a body that represents the interests of the four Canary chambers, being their voice before the institutions and civil society.

Likewise, the vice-presidency of the Council has been chosen by the president of the Fuerteventura Chamber, Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, who together with the representative of the administration, appointed by the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed Workers of the Government of the Canary Islands and the presidents of the other chambers, make up the General Council of Canary Chambers. The person proposed by the supervisory body is the vice-minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumption, Felipe Afonso El Jaber, and as his substitute, the general director of Commerce and Consumption, David Mille.

The General Council of Canary Islands Chambers of Commerce is a public corporation with advisory and collaboration functions with the Government of the Canary Islands and with the rest of the autonomous institutions that represents and coordinates the Chambers of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The General Council of Chambers aims to promote common actions of all the chambers, appoint Council representatives in all types of public or private bodies and entities at a level greater than that of the island, as well as propose reforms and measures to defend the general interests of commerce, industry, tourism, services and navigation.
