The technical departments of Maspalomas Costa Canaria and Mogán are currently outlining the promotional agenda together with Turismo de Gran Canaria for the World Travel Market (WTM London 2024) in November 2024. Companies from the south and employees from Las Palmas operating in the south of the island, as well as businessmen from the south of Gran Canaria, are outlining the agenda. Among the tour operators with the largest market share in the area, such as TUI or Jet2holidays, they expect Maspalomas and Mogán to send strong messages against the tourismophobia of Tenerife (it was born there) and present plans for infrastructure works as well as data on improving the perception of tourism on the island. News: increased connectivity to Gran Canaria by TUI, Easyjet and Wizz Air.
Maspalomas held a virtual activity with the company of a professor from the University of Las Palmas, but it was barely known after the impact because, apparently, there were connectivity problems from a shopping centre that would be a lost corner without real public transit. The delegations from the south of the island to WTM will depart around November 3 to November 7, hoping to welcome exhibitors, including tourist entities, hoteliers, transport companies, technological services and experiences from the south of Gran Canaria.
The management of Maspalomas to the Mancomunidad de Medianías in order to better move investment has been a disaster due to the change of government in San Mateo (the interests of the south of the island are based on that municipality) and delays in State authorization. The same happens with the agreements with the Chamber of Commerce of Las Palmas. The 2024 edition of WTM London in Maspalomas and Mogán will see the largest event to date, with 7% growth expected and an expansion to new pavilions at the ExCeL London facilities, reflecting the recovery of the international travel and tourism sector.
WTM confirms that, so far, there is information that there will be new exhibitors at the meeting of a key industry for the south of Gran Canaria. There was significant growth in the destination market, with a 9% increase in destination participation and more than 135 national tourism organisations will be present, with a huge volume of regions and cities joining them.
In 2024, the south of the island will defend its products against Africa, which is the fastest-growing region due to the proactive and diligent strategies implemented by Morocco and Egypt in the post-pandemic world. There is also a significant increase in off-destination travel brands exhibiting at WTM London, with a 71% increase in the participation of exhibitors from companies that have aligned themselves with the event's new 'Experiences' zone.
