The work on the Maspalomas Municipal Market is jinxed

Aldi has completed the work on the new Sonneland store, near the headquarters of the Maspalomas Tourist Rehabilitation Consortium, in just eight months. The public sector is another world and the Maspalomas Municipal Market is receiving a visit this Thursday from companies that want to opt to finish the work, scheduled to open in November 2023. The vice president of the Consortium, who is the mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, has had to call an urgent competition because the awardee of the final art failed.

Specifically, for a million euros, following the termination of the previous contract, "due to culpable non-compliance by the contractor," according to official sources, "it is urgent that the installation of the transformation works be continued, in order to put them into service but, in addition, to guarantee the smooth progress of the architectural works whose execution is being affected by the paralysis of the installation works." And that other thing: through these specifications the neighbors have learned that the work is "paralyzed."

The new tender includes the pending industrial installations of the building and its surrounding plot: low voltage, interior lighting of the building, exterior lighting of the building, fire protection, telecommunications, air conditioning, plumbing, sanitation, rainwater; 100 KW photovoltaic installations, current reversal system, installations and supporting structures on the roof of the building and the installation works for the connection of the main building with the existing transformation centre in the market area.

The works on the project for the new Maspalomas Municipal Market, which is being financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with 5.987.223 euros, will have a total surface area of 3.799,02 square metres, of which the space for the market itself and for the catering area will occupy 2.046,64, while the 384-seat assembly hall will have 1.015,04, the terraces will have 759,93, on the upper floor 159,82 will be used to house eight offices and a training room, and the warehouses located on the ground floor will be used for another 116,61.

The work on Avenida de Tirajana has been financed with 400.000 euros from the Cabildo's Open Commercial Areas Modernisation Plan, together with a very significant provision of parking spaces that gives pedestrians a leading role. The first island corporation has also financed a second provision of parking spaces, which is endowed with another 600.000 euros and is currently being put out to tender, which will complement the open commercial area and make it easy for citizens to access and visit this space.

In addition, it is a totally sustainable building, thanks to the design of a 100-kilowatt photovoltaic roof, with 117 kilowatts of peak power, the openings that are produced in the building and the materials that are being used. The idea is that it will be inaugurated before the end of November or in December for the Christmas period. They began on November 28, 2022 and are not progressing according to the expected pace, so the estimated date for its completion depends on there being no new improvisations. Perhaps March 2025.
