Cepsa and state, regional and local politicians, experts, academics and entrepreneurs consider it "fundamental" to accelerate the deployment of public electric vehicle charging points in the south of Gran Canaria over the next few years as a preliminary step to extending the adoption of this mobility among users who, at the moment, are wary of this technology due to doubts about the daily use of these vehicles.
Thanks to the installation of ultra-fast chargers at strategically located service stations, electric mobility is possible. With a charging capacity of up to 350kW, the chargers allow you to travel long distances without having to add additional charging time to your journey. In addition, they use the Combined Charging System (CCS), the most widely used European standard for current and future electric vehicles.
As part of its Positive Motion strategy, Cepsa has launched its 'Energy Spaces' initiative, which will promote debate among the different actors involved in the energy transition with the aim of bringing together institutional leaders, experts and representatives of civil society to discuss and generate solutions that drive the transformation towards a more sustainable energy model.
In 2023, only 12% of vehicles sold were electrified, far from the 21% of the European average, reaching only 1,2% of the total fleet in a context in which the lack of infrastructure conditions the positive evolution of this market. Without fast or ultra-fast charging points, roads in tourist destinations cannot be decarbonised, which constitutes a significant barrier for users who do not have a home charger.
Cepsa estimates that vehicles are parked 96% of the time and the time spent looking for a parking space can account for up to 25% of the time they are used. Thus, more than six out of ten electric cars do not have charging infrastructure in private garages, which is why both the public and private sectors are advocating reforming the aid system by recovering incentives such as the Renove Plan, allowing the discount to be applied directly at dealerships.
