Vandalism to municipal facilities in El Tablero Park and bathrooms in Fataga Square

The Department of Parks and Gardens of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council reports the damage caused to the public toilets in Plaza de Fataga and the rear park of Mercadona, in El Tablero

Uncivil behaviour has once again caused serious damage to public infrastructure in the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall, causing property damage to the municipality. On this occasion, the vandalism has had a negative impact on the public toilets in the park behind Mercadona, in El Tablero, and also on the services in the Fataga Public Square.

The damage to both services has already been reported by the Department of Parks and Gardens, headed by the eighth deputy mayor, Araceli Armas Cruz, and coordinated by the councillor Eduardo Armas Herrera, who have brought this situation to the attention of the mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez. The damage caused to the services in Fataga has been minor, as it has consisted of graffiti on the doors and the burning and scattering of papers inside, but the damage to the men's and women's toilets in El Tablero park has forced their closure, as the breaking and removal of tap keys, cisterns and basins has caused the water supply to be cut off and this has led to the closure of the services until they are repaired. There they have even broken the door locking systems. The cleaners have also detected that some young people use the entrance to the toilets to smoke and eat sunflower seeds, two actions that are expressly prohibited in the rules of use of the premises.

This park behind the Mercadona in El Tablero was opened to children and young people in mid-February, after undergoing a thorough cleaning and improvement project. The area, which covers some 5.000 m², had remained closed practically since its inauguration in February 2011. Some 2 million euros were invested in its construction.
