Improvements to the climb from Lomo de Maspalomas to the Cemetery

 

The Department of Parks and Gardens and of Roads and Works of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council have been carrying out a campaign since Monday to improve the landscape on both sides of the GC-60 road, between Lomo de Maspalomas and the town cemetery.

 

The operation will continue until Wednesday, with the participation of two teams of municipal personnel, who have also been joined by workers from the agreement signed by the City Council with Foresta and workers from Canaragua Medio Ambiente.

 

 

The work began in the vicinity of Bar Nicolás and will end at the El Lomo Cemetery. The crews are working on both sides of the road, removing all the weeds and also all kinds of rubbish such as cans, bottles, debris and bags that they find in their path up to 4 metres wide from the protective fences.

 

At the start of the operation, supervised by the councillors responsible for the area, Araceli Armas Cruz and Eduardo Armas Herrera, it was made clear that throughout the procedure the native Canarian flora existing along the route must be respected and preserved, consisting mainly of balos, verodes, salados, green gorse and sea rosemary.

 

This action, planned by the Department of Parks and Gardens, also includes the tidying up of the old El Lomo water pond and the clearing and removal of all dry vegetation and weeds.

 

Starting this Tuesday, personnel and vehicles from the Department of Cleaning, headed by Councillor Ruyman Cardoso López, are expected to join the work to begin removing the prunings and rubbish accumulated in mounds by the Parks and Gardens workers.
