The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall names the playing field after the footballer born in Maspalomas who has played the most games with the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council has already put the name of the footballer David García Santana in large letters on the walls of football pitch no. 1 of the Maspalomas Sports City. With this action by the Department of Sports led by the fourth deputy mayor, Ramón Suárez Ojeda, the municipal government completes the institutional and public recognition dedicated to the former captain of UD Las Palmas, born in San Fernando de Maspalomas on February 25, 1982.
“This decision has been sponsored and defended by the mayor himself, Marco Aurelio Pérez, as a sign of gratitude from the municipality for the sporting legacy of the footballer, who, in his professional career as a legend of Canarian football, has contributed like few others to spreading the name of Maspalomas throughout Spain,” says Ramón Suárez.
The naming of football pitch No. 1 of the Ciudad Deportiva with his name was communicated to David García by the mayor himself in December of last year, during the warm and emotional tribute that the footballer's closest friends organised for him at the Maspalomas Cultural Centre with the close collaboration of the Department of Sports.
The event, presented by the journalist Paco García Caridad, was attended by representatives of CD Maspalomas, UD Vecindario, UD Las Palmas, UD Tamaraceite and CF Arucas, the president of the Insular Federation, José Juan Arencibia; the coaches Juan Manuel Rodríguez and Pacuco Rosales, and also his first coach during his formative stage in the lower categories of CD Maspalomas, Orlando Baena; the president of the Federation of Supporters' Clubs of UD Las Palmas; the president of the Peña Ultra Naciente and a large representation of the Peña David García. The colorful note was provided by the members of the Los Nietos de Sarymanchez murga.
