At 12:21, a serious traffic accident was recorded on El Canónigo street, in Tasarte, municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, Gran Canaria. According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands, the incident occurred when a vehicle left the road and crashed into a wall.
At the scene of the accident, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) intervened by sending a medicated ambulance. The Firefighters had to secure the vehicle and free the two occupants trapped inside. Tragically, an 81-year-old woman died on the spot.
The second occupant, who had several serious injuries, was initially treated on site and then transferred to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria in critical condition by an advanced life support ambulance.
In addition to the SUC, the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium and the Civil Guard were involved in the operation, and were responsible for preparing the corresponding report.
CECOES 1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary resources to address the emergency and ensure security in the area.
