José M. Moreno Pérez, co-founder and number two member of the political party La Fortaleza de Santa Lucía, has announced today his resignation from the political party. After 18 years of commitment and militancy, Moreno has decided to end his relationship with the party due to what he describes as a “drift” in the decisions and direction of the group, moving away from the values that motivated its foundation.
In a statement issued this morning, Moreno expressed his conviction that “another way of doing politics is possible,” stressing that politics must be a public service based on coherence, honesty and firm principles. He regretted that the current direction of the party has distanced itself from its initial ideals, a situation that, according to the leader, has made his continued membership unsustainable.
Moreno concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the values of loyalty and principles that have always guided his political career, stressing that his decision to leave La Fortaleza responds to a desire to be consistent with those principles and to maintain his personal and professional integrity.
For the time being, he remains a councillor, thanking his members and friends for the support he has received over the years.
