Schauinsland-Reisen, the largest company in the south of Gran Canaria, has confirmed that it will not initially establish an end-customer brand for its hotels operating under the R2 brand. An effective brand requires a lot of preparatory work, according to the organiser's deputy head Steffen Kassner. Kassner concludes that "if the hotels are well positioned, a global brand is not necessary." "R2 is now a household name in the sales field," says Steffen Kassner. In addition to its involvement in the hotel segment, Schauinsland-Reisen now has around 70 travel agencies of its own and a majority stake in the airline Sundair.
In the Canary Islands, the company that generates the most money in Maspalomas, Schauinsland, currently has eleven hotels of its own with more than 4.000 beds. In Fuerteventura alone, Schauinsland owns seven hotels with more than 1.000 beds, as well as another three hotels in Mallorca and the R2 Bahía Kontiki Beach Apartments complex in Lanzarote. All of these operations are run from the south of Gran Canaria.
The most recent developments were in Fuerteventura: the R2 Buganvilla Hotel & Spa was added at the end of 2023, and the R2 Higos Beach Apartments on Fuerteventura's Costa Calma in February 2024. It offers 82 apartments with fully equipped kitchens and renovated facilities. Some apartments have their own private pool and terrace. The hotel also offers a heated winter pool, a terrace, a buffet restaurant, a pool and rooftop bar, and a gym. The R2 Rio Calma Hotel & Spa in Fuerteventura is planning to redesign the lagoon area between the sea and the hotel complex. It is considered the flagship of the R2 chain.
