The Km.0 and Sol Fairs bring local products and sustainable technology to the Agüimes Fairgrounds

This weekend, the Agüimes Fairgrounds are hosting two fairs that promote the local economy through agricultural and artisanal products, on the one hand, and sustainability based on new technologies, on the other. The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the Southeast Association of Municipalities and mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García; the president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales; along with the councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts, Minerva Alonso; the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín; and the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, as well as councilors from these municipalities.

 

 

The authorities conducted a tour of the different stands at the fairs to learn about the work, production, ideas and opportunities offered by each of the exhibitors present, both in food and innovation. From 09:00 to 14:00 hours, visitors can visit the different stands.

 

This year, the Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair brings together more than fifty producers who bring the best in wines, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, jams, among other foods that stand out for their quality. For its part, the Feria del Sol, focuses on the power of this star to promote entrepreneurship in renewable energies, where the latest trends in clean energy, urban mobility and drones will be exhibited.

 

The president of the Association, Francisco García, stated that “one of the objectives of this Association of the Southeast is to support Km0 products and that is why this fair, accompanied also by the Feria del Sol, allows the farmers and ranchers that we have in this land to sell their products directly.” “It is being a very participative fair. For the Association of the Southeast it is a challenge and one of its fundamental pillars to support what is produced in this territory,” García stressed.

 

Likewise, the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, stressed that “the fairs are fundamental because they are a space for direct marketing by the producer. Families can come, get close, check the quality of the product, its freshness. The producers benefit because they sell without intermediaries.” “It is the largest presence of the primary sector that has ever had in the Southeast event. This reflects the push of the area around what is being produced, with more quality, more freshness, generating employment, greater awareness in protecting the landscape, or the fight against fires,” said Morales. He also highlighted the good reception that the Fairs have had from the first hour, “the Agüimes Fairgrounds has extraordinary conditions to enjoy in a comfortable way.” “I am sure that it will be a success,” he concluded. 

 

The Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts, Minerva Alonso, added that “these fairs are an important space for the loyalty of the citizens of Gran Canaria to local products, where the product is promoted and marketed.” “The Cabildo of Gran Canaria tries to give this message to people, to buy local products to take care of our environment, to help producers and for the enormous properties it has for our health,” the Councillor pointed out.

 

The Km.0 and del Sol fairs are once again being held together, providing an ideal space to raise awareness of sustainability, renewable energy and the importance of supporting local businesses and our farmers by consuming Km0 agricultural products. In addition to helping the economy, buying local food reduces transport, decreasing the impact generated by the carbon footprint, hence the synergy between the two fairs.

 

This meeting serves as a warm-up for the arrival of the Southeast Fair , which will be held between November 8 and 10, an essential event to learn firsthand about the agriculture, livestock, and crafts of the region.
