The Canary Islands Government Council has agreed this Monday to send a transfer of 400.000 euros to Mogán from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families, with the aim of increasing the investment of the Mogán City Council in the Senior Citizens' Day Centre.
The municipality of Mogán, the second largest on the island, currently has a day centre in Arguineguín with 65 places occupied. Mayor Onalia Bueno explains the need for a new centre to relieve congestion in the existing one and better serve the rest of the communities that make up the territory, including the neighbourhoods of Mogán pueblo, Playa de Mogán and Veneguera, which are further away from Arguineguín.
With this new centre, residents of these areas will not have to travel to Arguineguín and, in addition, it is expected that waiting lists will be reduced, according to the mayor. "The population is ageing and, although we carry out daily prevention projects, it is inevitable that more care will be needed. This new centre will be essential to assist our growing elderly population," she adds.
The mayor therefore stressed the importance of having two centres to relieve congestion in Arguineguín and offer a better service to the elderly population of the municipality.
