Technology companies are making progress in their measures to test digital transformation measures in the south of Gran Canaria with the support of the EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and the Ministry of Tourism. In one of these European programs, 'Última Milla', the Canarian company Tech Properties within the consortium made up of Saberin Solution, Aurontech and A Fonte Penena is finalizing the Atenea project (ICT/1519/2021) to promote the digital transformation of tourism in Spain. That is: the technological application that will be tested in the south of Gran Canaria, where there is everything from sun and beach tourism to rural tourism, to promote the cohesion of the destination.

The 'Last Mile' programme of the Ministry of Tourism and PRTR is a roadmap that includes investments and a broad set of structural reforms that respond to the specific recommendations of the European institutions and to the diagnoses carried out by our institutions and social and civil society agents collected through, among other means, Sectoral Conferences, social dialogue groups and expressions of interest.

Atenea's objective is to intensify the digitalisation of companies in the tourism sector by implementing unique and transformative technological projects that cover easily scalable and replicable processes and products with a clear orientation towards the end user and that contain, among others, improvements in digitalisation and intelligence applied to management, promotion, enhancement and dissemination for destinations and the tourism sector.

Around the four cross-cutting axes that articulate the Plan (ecological transition, digital transformation, territorial cohesion and gender equality), 30 components or lines of action are deployed, each of which focuses on a specific challenge or objective, and includes reforms and investments that contribute to achieving the general objectives of the plan.

Specifically, component 14 develops a 'Plan for the modernisation and competitiveness of the tourism sector', which envisages investments of 3.400 billion euros and which aims to transform and modernise this sector from a strategic and comprehensive perspective, on different areas of action: the transformation of the tourism model towards environmental, socio-economic and territorial sustainability, through the Sustainable Tourism Strategy Spain 2030, Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination, and Social Sustainability Plans.

The Ministry of Tourism highlights "the drive to competitiveness through the development of the tourism product, energy efficiency and the circular economy in the sector, investment in the maintenance and rehabilitation of historical heritage for tourism use and in the improvement of commercial areas with a high tourist influx." Among the investments included is the 'Digitization and intelligence program for destinations and the tourism sector', whose main objective is to implement actions to promote the digitalization of both destinations and tourism companies. These actions include the 'last mile' aid program aimed at companies, preferably SMEs, and associations or associative entities for the development of innovative technology-based projects.
