The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; and the Councilor for Economic Development of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, have revealed the keys to the new edition of the catwalk together with the president of the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain (ACME), Modesto Lomba

Europe's leading swimwear catwalk returns in October with more participating brands and a solid commitment to expanding both its international influence and support for local designers.

Thanks to the alliance of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), GCSW has, for the first time, the participation of American brands

As a novelty, the opening day of GCSW returns, sixteen years later, to an outdoor setting such as the Pasito Blanco marina.

 

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has revealed today the news of the new edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week, which will begin on October 2 with a day of parades that, as a novelty, returns, sixteen years later, to the exterior, in the Pasito Blanco marina., and will extend for three more days, until October 5, in the venue of Expomeloneras in Maspalomas.

the keys of GCSW 2024, the European leader in its category and an international benchmark in swimwear, have been unveiled by the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; and the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso, together with the President of ACME, Modesto Lomba. 

 

As they have stressed in this presentation, Gran Canaria Swim Week 2024 renews its bets on new talents and emerging brands, as well as on established national and international firms, which make up a catwalk characterized by bringing Gran Canaria iconography closer to trendy swimwear. The event promotes talent and is a unique showcase for presenting collections created based on sustainability, quality and trendy design criteria.

 

Gran Canaria Swim Week will bring together a total of 40 designers and brands in this edition, of which 23 are from the Canary Islands –14 from Gran Canaria, 7 from La Palma, one from Lanzarote and one from Tenerife-; 8 from the Peninsula, and 9 international, among which there are American and European firms. All of them will present their Spring Summer 2025 bets on the Canary Islands catwalk. Among the designers and firms confirmed for this edition are, among others, creators of recognized prestige such as Aurelia Gil, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada o Dolores Cortes. On the other hand, among the participating firms there will be Ten emerging talents. In this edition, American firms also make their debut on the catwalk. Guess, Alejandra Alonso Rojas yCynthia Rowley.

 

One more year, All citizens will be able to enjoy the parades, which can be followed on a large screen from the GCSW terrace at Expomeloneras. In this space, where visitors will be able to closely follow the event and its parallel actions, there will be a gastronomic area and a zone chill out.

During the event, the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, pointed out that The international projection of Gran Canaria Swim Week has been extraordinary in Europe, in the USA and on the main catwalks of the European continent., This represents an extraordinary projection for the creators of Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida brand. All this translates into job creation, a boost to training and the emergence of new sectors linked to fashion and the textile industry. The island president also added that "theGran Canaria Swimwear Fashion Week represents part of our identity for the island. For her part, the Councillor for Economic Development of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, has highlighted that “The organisation of this Gran Canaria Swimwear Fashion Week has been a team effort, creating synergies with the designers, the companies participating in the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida programme and the modelling agencies. We would also like to express our gratitude for the support and accompaniment of the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain (ACME) and the internationalisation department of the Chamber of Commerce.”  

 

The councillor continued by highlighting some of the key points of the new edition of GCSW: “The big bets of this edition are, on the one hand, the collections of our creators, which differentiate us and make us unique; on the other hand, we become a platform of international projection that receives firms from the USA for the first time thanks to an agreement with Council of Fashion Designers of America. In addition, we are consolidating alliances with other countries in Europe. The agreement between the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and CFDA means the inclusion of our catwalk in the international calendar alongside Milan, New York and Paris.”

We have the example in this edition, which will feature a important representation of US firms. Four days of parades

 

During the opening day on Wednesday, October 2, in the outdoor enclave of Pasito Blanco, the parades will take place Victoria Cimadevilla (Spain), Friend (Spain), Alexandra Miro (UK), Agatha Ruiz de la Prada (Spain) and Palmas (Gran Canaria, Spain). On the third day, Friday, October 4, GCSW will continue with the fashion shows Econaked (Gran Canaria, Spain), Monnur (Spain), Sea Far Niente (Gran Canaria, Spain), Gisela. (Spain), Starlite (Spain), Miss Bikini (Italia) Cynthia Rowley (USA), Elena Morales (Gran Canaria, Spain) and Guess (USA). Finally, the closing day on Saturday, October 5th will begin shortly after noon with emerging talents Daria Bae (Gran Canaria, Spain), MG&R Design(Gran Canaria, Spain), Patricia Caro (Gran Canaria, Spain), Sirago (Gran Canaria, Spain), Mommy Loves (Gran Canaria, Spain), Volcano Blood (Gran Canaria, Spain), and Chacho Svnrs (Gran Canaria, Spain). Stella Maxwell has walked the catwalk for Chanel, Balmain, Versace, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger. In 2015 and 2019 she received the award Model of the Year across LA Fashion AwardsSince 2015, Stella Maxwell has been part of the select group of “angels” by Victoria's Secret. She has been featured on the covers of various international editions of publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle. Maxwell, a highly credible and valuable profile in the industry, will project the image of the catwalk to a global audience interested in fashion.

Valentina Ferrer, an Argentine model and successful entrepreneur in the wellness and diet industry, will be part of this edition of GCSW. Ferrer has walked the catwalk for brands such as Ralph Lauren, Vetements, and Boss; and has been on the cover of international editions of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and InStyle, among other publications.

 

Agreement with Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)

 

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have signed a collaboration agreement to promote GCSW as the only swimwear platform in the world, which also means the inclusion of the Gran Canaria catwalk in the international calendar of fashion weeks alongside Milan, New York or ParisThis alliance makes it possible for American designers to participate in GCSW for the first time. This agreement is part of the internationalization plan developed in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria.

 

GCSW 2024 Influencers

 

The catwalk will also be attended by influencers and opinion leaders on social networks who will share their experience at Gran Canaria Swim Week with their respective digital communities. Among them, the TV host and fashion expert Josie, the designer and influencer Rocio Osorno, the content creator Chincha Rabiña, and the Canarian influencers Yaiza MenciaGema BetancortMinerva Hers y Martha Ibrahim. The sum of the digital communities of the Gran Canaria Swim Week influencer and ambassador plan is 12,7 millions of followers, which will amplify the event's diffusion on networks.

 

An international and diverse casting of models with 40% of Canarian models

 

With the ambassador Stella Maxwell and top Valentina ferrer, big names from the national and international scene will parade on the GCSW catwalk like Lorena Duran, Desiree Cordero o Grace QuayeThis is a diverse, cosmopolitan and multiracial casting of models, made up of models from the Canary Islands, the peninsula, and international models. This casting specializing in swimwear is made up of 46 models in total: 35 girls -13 of them are Canarian models-, and 11 boys -of which 7 are Canarian-. Ablaye Sow, Ali Embaye, Aridane Da Silva, among others, are part of the cast.

 

GCSW Awards 2024

 

Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida reinforces its commitment to swimwear with the presentation of three awards focused on promoting the work of designers. These recognitions will be made to the Best CollectionIn the Best Sustainable Collection and the Best Emerging Collection.

 

TVE and ¡Hola! TV will broadcast the event to a global audience

 

TVE is once again the official television channel for the event. The programme Near you conducted by Roberto Herrera -and broadcast live from Expomeloneras- will cover information about the fashion shows of this edition. In addition, the channel will broadcast, both nationally and in its territorial disconnections, programming about the catwalk. For its part, ¡HOLA! TV moves with a TV studio to the social area of ​​Expomeloneras to broadcast the catwalk shows to its entire audience and make connections with the official set in Miami. Journalist Laura Beracasa will be responsible for the special on-site programming of ¡HOLA! TV, which becomes the official international television channel.
