The executive board of the Canary Islands Confederation of Businessmen agreed on Thursday to incorporate the new representatives of the Association of Advertising Companies of the Canary Islands (ASAC), Jorge Suárez de Tangil, who has just opened a business in Mogán, and Eladio Bombín, to "strengthen business unity". In the case of the Canary Islands, the most recent data indicate that the GDP of the Islands registered a quarterly increase of 1,0% in the second quarter of the year, much lower than the 2,1% that it had shown at the beginning of the year.
During the meeting, data from the tourism sector were also analysed, which showed that the hotel occupancy rate in the Archipelago closed the month of August at its highest level since 2018, and the celebration of a joint action next October was announced, which will be organised by the CCE together with CEOE under the motto 'From listening to doing together, better tourism'. This initiative, which is being developed by CEOE throughout the national territory, will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 29 October, and will be attended by members of the CEOE Tourism Council and representatives of all the productive sectors of the Canary Islands, with the aim of analysing a common development strategy for the future of tourism in which the whole of society must be involved. The CCE in Las Palmas also analysed the evolution of the German economy, which has once again recorded a new quarterly decline in GDP. According to the latest forecasts published by the ECB, the Eurozone as a whole will grow by 0,8% at the end of this year, one-tenth less than what was forecast in the last estimates made last June.
Germany's leading economic research institutes have once again cut their economic forecasts for 2024. According to a joint diagnosis published on Thursday by the economic research institutes Ifo, Diw, Ifw, Rwi and Iwh on behalf of the Economics Ministry in Berlin, Germany's gross domestic product is expected to decline by -0,1 percent in 2024. Growth is expected to be only 2025 percent in 0,8 and 2026 percent in 1,3. The German lower house of parliament approved on Thursday, at the initiative of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government, a package of measures aimed at cutting red tape in order to ease the burden of paperwork for businesses and citizens, which will result in economic savings of almost 1.000 billion euros annually. Among other things, the law proposes simplifications for the procedures of tax advisors, reduces the retention period for company accounting documents from ten to eight years and eliminates the obligation to sign a special registration form by hand when staying in hotels.
