PROGRAM OF THE VIRGIN OF THE ROSARY FESTIVALS 2024
The Fiestas del Rosario de Agüimes, declared of National Tourist Interest, have a long tradition that dates back to the devotion to the Virgin of the Rosary, co-patron and perpetual mayor of the municipality. For decades, these festivities have been a reflection of the rich cultural heritage of the region, highlighting the emblematic Bringing of Gofio and Water, a celebration that evokes the ancient agricultural custom of taking millet to the mills to make gofio. Over the years, this event has become a popular festival full of color, music and tradition, which brings together residents and visitors in an atmosphere of fun and respect for local roots.
On Saturday, September 23, the main event will be the Bringing of Gofio and Water. The procession, dressed in traditional costumes and accompanied by music, will begin its journey from the mills at 19:00 p.m., sprinkling gofio as it advances towards the Plaza del Rosario, where a street party will be held with performances by Star Music, DJ Promaster and La Mekánica by Tamarindos. This event is not only a reference to the agricultural tradition, but also an opportunity for the community to celebrate with a touch of mischief and joy.
On Sunday 24 September, the Plaza del Rosario will host various activities. At 12:00 a children's play park will be set up for the enjoyment of the little ones. In the afternoon, starting at 17:00, a lively Latin dance party will take place, with workshops and displays of salsa, bachata and kizomba, thus closing a weekend full of tradition, music and fun for all ages.
