(CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government received an alert reporting the presence of a swimmer in cardiorespiratory arrest after being taken out of the water
A 67-year-old woman died this afternoon after being rescued with signs of drowning at Playa del Inglés, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria. The incident took place at 12:34 p.m., when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government received an alert reporting the presence of a swimmer in cardiorespiratory arrest after being taken out of the water.
The CECOES immediately activated the necessary emergency resources. The Red Cross staff, present on the beach, began cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on the victim until the arrival of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) health services and the Primary Care team. Despite the efforts of the health workers, who continued with advanced resuscitation maneuvers, it was not possible to save the woman's life and her death was confirmed at the scene.
The operation involved a basic life support ambulance, a medicalized ambulance and a medicalized helicopter from the SUC, which was finally deactivated after the death of the affected person was confirmed. Likewise, the medical and nursing team from Primary Care Emergencies went to the scene together with personnel from the Red Cross and the National Police, who have opened proceedings to investigate what happened.
