Sarah Jane Evans, a British wine writer and journalist, co-chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards and former president of IMW, is coming to the south of Gran Canaria to give a masterclass to professionals in the sector organised by Vinófilos, the distributor that Mario Reyes Rodríguez founded in 2000 in Gran Canaria, on Monday 25 November. Evans is a member of the Grand Order of the Knights of Wine, an organisation that has helped to spread the diversity and quality of Spanish wines in the British market.
She has been awarded the Royal Order of Isabel la Católica, a Spanish civil order granted by the King of Spain, which distinguishes people and institutions in recognition of extraordinary services provided to Spain, or the promotion of international relations and cooperation with other nations.
Sarah Jane Evans is a Master of Wine and winner of the Robert Mondavi Winery Award for obtaining the best overall grade in the Theory exam. Her other great passions are Spain and Sherry wine. She is President of the Grand Order of Knights of Wine, a certified educator in Sherry Wines, and has received the Dama de Albariño and Dama de Solear awards. Her books about our country include 'Sevilla', 'Los vinos del norte de España' and 'Los Vinos del Centro y Sur de España'.
At Expomeloneras she will discuss her interests which also include the wines of South and North America, Greece and the great fortified and sweet wines of the world. She studied Classics and Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge University. She began her career in book publishing and is now a trustee of the André Simon Book Award and series editor of the Classic Wine Library. She spent a decade as associate editor of the BBC's Good Food magazine and uses her interventions to invite consumers to develop their own confidence in tasting. She is also the founder of the Academy of Chocolate and author of 'Chocolate Unwrapped', a passion that she has given free rein to in this Madrid Fusión The Wine Edition.
