This open-air premiere - 16 years later - was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, who commented that the intention is to recover the fashion shows outside "to bring the climate, the landscapes and the extraordinary surroundings of the Island to the world." Morales also highlighted the increasingly international projection of the catwalk, its "increasingly sustainable nature, in response to the sector's own concerns," and its "increasing" capacity to generate employment. "The evolution in this sense has been very important in recent years, and therefore the diversification of the economy seriously counts on this proposal, which also gives space to local creators, whose presence alongside national and international ones, is very important," concluded the president.
The leading European catwalk in its category and international benchmark in swimwear fashion will continue for three more days, until October 5, at the ExpoMeloneras venue in Maspalomas.
Regarding the opening day, it is also worth highlighting that following the shows from the front row were opinion leaders such as TV host and fashion expert Josie; content creator Chincha Rabiña; and Canarian influencers Yaiza Mencía, Marta Ibrahim and Amalia Fajardo. All of them have amplified the visibility of the shows by sharing their experience at GCSW with their respective digital communities under the hashtags #GranCanariaSwimWeek2024 and #GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC. In addition, a group of national and international press, from fashion and general press, has travelled to Gran Canaria to attend the GCSW event.

Opening day parades
Victoria Cimadevilla has presented “Flor del Desierto”, a collection that celebrates feminine strength and resilience, inspired by the flowers that bloom in the desert after a storm. With an earthy palette of olive and black, the collection combines swimwear adorned with 3D flowers and handmade crochet dresses, evoking the connection between humanity and nature. Ruffles and draping add movement and texture, while each piece symbolizes the ability to adapt, endure and shine, inviting women to embrace their inner strength and flourish in any circumstance.
Vän, founded in 2023 in Barcelona, is a swimwear brand that stands out for its focus on comfort and sun protection. Its name comes from the Swedish word for "friend", representing the friendship between its creators. With the motto "Aqua Couture", the brand seeks to add a touch of fashion to sports swimwear, highlighting its long-sleeved swimsuits, made with sustainable Italian fabrics and SPF50+ sun protection. Vän offers a vibrant and bold collection of swimsuits, bikinis and long-sleeved garments, with details such as neon-colored linings, giving women confidence and comfort to enjoy the day at the beach or water activities.
Alexandra Miró’s collection is a showcase of luxury and modern femininity, combining elegance and sophistication. Known for her minimalist and bold designs, Alexandra Miró uses high-quality fabrics to create swimwear, beachwear and resort pieces that stand out for their clean lines and striking aesthetic. Her new collection, Seville, inspired by Andalusia, features a vibrant rose print that evokes romance and timeless elegance. Dramatic tulle pieces, with an ethereal and flamenco touch, along with luxurious coupe fabrics, bring a sophisticated and modern air to the collection, ideal for transitioning effortlessly from day on the beach to night.
Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada's new collection for next summer is an explosion of colour and creativity that reflects the designer's unmistakable style. True to her essence, Ágatha introduces floats with polka dot prints and balls that become skirts, in addition to her iconic umbrella-style dresses decorated with drops and clouds. The collection also includes Bermuda shorts and shirts in the brand's vibrant colours: red, turquoise, yellow and green. With the use of plasticised fabrics and transparencies, the pieces convey a feeling of lightness, offering an elegant and fun summer. Agatha, with more than 40 years of experience, continues to fuse fashion and art, making each of her creations an artistic expression and a distinctive seal both on the catwalk and in everyday life.
The Palmas “Línea” collection follows the line marked by the acclaimed Palmas Bridal 2025 collection, “Esencia”. Inspired by 70s pop art and geometric minimalism, it incorporates a touch of futurism. Exclusive prints, with geometric and abstract shapes, are applied to fabrics such as lycra and chiffon, giving life to swimwear, bikinis and outerwear in a wide variety of shapes and cuts for both men and women. The designs are complemented by gold appliqués and accessories that elevate each look, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.
