Paco Rodríguez, the labor advisor who faced the “powers that be” in the south

MASPALOMAS24H Friday, October 04 from 2024

The labor advisor Paco Rodríguez will be named next Friday, October 11, adopted son of the Illustrious Villa of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The motivations for this recognition are due to the fact that he has spent practically his entire working life in the municipality. So the honoree himself recognized in an interview on the radio magazine “The Canarian Mirror” that "What I have I owe in large part to that municipality because there I set up my office in the Koka apartments on March 8, 1971 and today I continue, although in another building, in the Prisma"

Asked about his merits in the aforementioned program, Rodríguez himself pointed out that in the exercise of his activity he has contributed "Above all, labor peace. I have helped many people, I have advised many companies and many workers.”. As expected, he thanked the man for this appointment and said he was “very proud and delighted”.

Known for his countless appearances in the different local media of which he says “never having received a penny”. Paco Rodríguez commented that perhaps the most complicated moment was the defense of the dismissal of the director of the Koka apartments, the now deceased, Manolo Pérez Mosquera. In that lawsuit, Rodríguez commented that “Many dark hands were involved in my losing that trial.”. He also noted that “At that time Manuel was a very good friend of mine, I had to defend him and I faced some powers that be that I am not going to name because surely on the 11th they will be at the event, some powerful people who used a lot of force even from the judicial point of view, mind you”.

However, Rodriguez pointed out that despite losing that conflict in the instance because "There was a magistrate who was corrupt"He managed to win it in the room and the community of owners had to pay out"a million for the dismissal".

The next adopted son of San Bartolomé de Tirajana also recalled those famous reports from the magazine Interviú against the local council which he described as “journalistic invention” since in his opinion there was never a “mafia” in the south as the aforementioned media referred to at the time. Finally, Rodríguez fondly recalled a carnival anecdote in which he, disguised with a Manuel Fraga mask, was recognized by Mayor Francisco Araña del Toro just by his way of walking and mentioned that at that time in the south “Money flowed like water, a lot of money was made. I ended up billing almost 10 million pesetas in fees.".
