Day 2024 of GCSW XNUMX highlights Canarian talent and US strength

The following have presented their Spring Summer collections: Isla Bonita Moda (La Palma, Spain), Macaronesia (Lanzarote, Spain), Arena Negra (Tenerife, Spain), Dolores Cortés (Spain), Pomeline (La Palma, Spain), Banana Moon (Monaco), Cala 1789 (France), Maldito Sweet (Gran Canaria, Spain) and Alejandra Rojas (USA)

Guests included fashion editors from leading media outlets specializing in the sector and buyers, both national and international in both cases. There was also representation from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

The Gran Canaria Swim Week 2024 shows continued today at the ExpoMeloneras venue. The public enjoyed an eclectic and international day of shows. Canarian talent represented by Isla Bonita Moda, Macaronesia Swim, Black Sand, Pomeline, and Damned Sweet; has shared the agenda with the peninsular Dolores Cortes, and with a cast of international brands -European and American- such as Banana Moon, Cala 1789, and Alejandra Rojas. The leading European catwalk in its category and international benchmark in swimwear fashion will continue for two more days, until October 5, at the ExpoMeloneras venue in Maspalomas. 

 

Following the parades from front rowopinion leaders as the national influencer Rocio Osorno, or the Canarian influencers Yaiza Mencía, Marta Ibrahim and Amalia Fajardo have amplified the visibility of the shows by sharing their experience at GCSW with their respective digital communities under the hashtags #GranCanariaSwimWeek2024 and #GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC.

 

 

Parades of the second day

 

Isla Bonita Fashion is a platform that promotes creative talent and designer fashion in La Palma, promoted by Sodepal, highlighting the cultural identity of the island. The new project, "Bonita", is a collaboration between five local brands (Rayco Plata, Julia Brito, Shamelu, Sara Luis Joyas and Ban), which presents a collection inspired by the flora and fauna of La Palma, with an artisanal and sustainable approach. The collection is a tribute to the nature of the island.

 

 Macaronesian Region, born on the beaches of Lanzarote, is a sustainable swimwear brand inspired by nature and life by the ocean. Created by designer Visi González, it reflects an island lifestyle and seeks to share the essence of the Canary Islands. Its new collection, Paradise, is inspired by the tropical flowers of the archipelago, bringing light and color. With a focus on sustainability, the pieces are made from recycled polyester, featuring asymmetrical cuts, open backs and fresh, bold designs, without losing the brand's signature comfort.

 

Arrecife, the 2025 collection of black sand, is a sporty, fresh and colorful proposal designed for water sports and the beach. Inspired by marine elements, it combines prints with details in plain black and fluorescent colors. The collection includes one-piece swimsuits, bikinis for women and options such as briefs and shorts for men. It is complemented by sunglasses, technical jackets, visors and rubber shoes, elevating the sporty style of each look.

 

The Bantu de Dolores Cortes For next summer, the collection is inspired by African dance and the rhythm of the Bantu, reflecting the energy and vitality of the African continent. With references to deserts, vibrant colours and ancestral rituals, it features ethnic graphics and tribal and animal prints. The swimsuits and bikinis evoke the safari, with predominant shades of black, khaki, green and terracotta. The cover-ups stand out for their hand-made embroidery and tassels, with silhouettes oversized and flowing fabrics. The looks are completed with XL accessories, raffia hats and turbans, offering a unique and eclectic aesthetic.

 

The Spring/Summer 2025 collection, pomeline Beach Club Canarias, pays homage to the luxury tourism of the 60s in the Canary Islands, when they became a fashionable tourist destination. With seventeen looks, the collection features high-waisted bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and colourful designs that evoke the elegance and adventurous spirit of the era, fusing the iconic style of that decade with modern touches.

 

Without losing sight of the brand's DNA, Banana Moonpresents a sexy and sophisticated collection for the Spring Summer 2025 season, which is reflected in sophisticated patterns and a vibrant color range.

 

True to its essence, CALA 1789 It stands out for its core values: timelessness, effortless simplicity, comfort and elegance, without compromising quality. Celebration is CALA's exclusive collection for next summer, in which CALA redefines summer elegance. The line is distinguished by iconic pieces such as blazers, sophisticated double-breasted jackets and shirts with convertible collars. In addition, CALA presents its beachwear line, characterized by exclusive patterns and innovative materials.  

 

Collection Damn Sweet stands out for its bold femininity and unique style. Inspired by Morocco, it uses materials such as lycra and transparent fabrics to create swimsuits, bikinis and trikinis. With vibrant colours evoking the Canary Islands and eye-catching accessories, the collection reflects a mix of modern sensuality and provocative femininity, aimed at the cosmopolitan woman.

 

The Madrid designer Alejandra RojasInfluenced by generations of women in her family, Rojas combines tradition and modernity in her timeless designs. Her collections, characterized by handmade knitwear, impeccable tailoring and artisanal finishes, are aimed at modern women who value timelessness. Rojas eschews trends and seasonality, offering versatile pieces that mix fine crochet, soft fabrics and chunky knits, bringing lightness to materials such as silk and satin. Inspired by her family memories, her creations are considered long-lasting investments.

 

Angela Ponce and other renowned models have taken to the catwalk today

Alongside the model and activist Ángela Ponce, renowned national, international and Canarian models have paraded, such as Emma Vanderloo, Marta López Álamo, Meri Lozano, Katia Gutiérrez, Desiré Cordero, Grace Quaye, Lorena Durán, Jabel Balbuena, and Guillermo López, among others.

Gran Canaria Moda Cálida is an action program in the fashion textile sector on the island created by the Department of Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. For this institution, Fashion is a growing sector with possibilities for industrial expansion and Gran Canaria represents the framework in which designers and companies support their projects.
