There will be live cooking, food stalls and performances by Maestro Florido, Los 600 and Los Faycanes.
The Pedestrian Zone of Avenida de Canarias and the Plaza de los Algodoneros in Vecindario are hosting the Tomato and Gastronomic Fair this weekend. The richness of tomatoes as a food can be seen in the food stalls that will be set up in the Pedestrian Zone and the 'Show cooking' in which the different dishes will be prepared and explained live.
In addition to the exhibition of food stalls, there will be concerts and the premiere of the musical show 'Corazón de Tomatera', a musical with a script by Manuel Estupiñán that will have as its protagonist this crop that is linked to the history of a good part of the 20th century in the southeast of Gran Canaria. In three marquees, the municipality's connection with the history of tomato cultivation in the southeast will be explored.
The Councillor for Economic Development, Sergio Vega, emphasises that “we want to vindicate our history and the influence of tomato cultivation and demonstrate the potential of this zero-kilometre product”. Vega encourages citizens “to attend this Tomato Fair because, in addition to enjoying drinks and dishes that feature this product, it is a way of recognising the work and sacrifice that people in the agricultural sector of our municipality have made in recent decades”.
