Bakery Iberian Investments, the owner of Bimbo, has ordered its lawyers to begin negotiations with the unions that agreed to the closure of the Tenerife plant in 2021 to dismiss sales staff working at the Bimbo factory in Arinaga, which supplies the food service and grocery store sector in the south of Gran Canaria. Bakery Iberian Investments closed its operations in Tenerife after investing 28 million euros to modernise the Arinaga plant.
The general secretary of the CC.OO section, Juan José Cabrera, has said that the ERE is not justified "because it is a viable company from an employment and economic point of view." The owner of Eidetesa, Bimbo, is one of the beneficiaries of State Aid from the EU in the Canary Islands due to its permanent tax establishment.
Bimbo Donuts Canarias has been operating in the Arinaga industrial zone for 31 years. Established in 1993, it has nearly 60 million euros in annual sales and more than 300 employees, and has one of the largest production centres in the food sector in the Canary Islands, with more than 15.000 square metres, and an extensive distribution network that allows it to take its products to every corner of the eight islands.
