San Bartolomé de Tirajana commemorates its 130th anniversary with an emotional gala of honours and distinctions

The National Police has been awarded the Gold Medal by the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in recognition of its exemplary work in the municipality. The mayor, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, presented the award to the Chief of Police in the Canary Islands, Jesús María Gómez Martín, at an event held at the Maspalomas Cultural Centre on 11 October 2024. The medal highlights the dedication of the officers of the Maspalomas Police Station to public safety.

 

The gala, which was held in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the town's title, also paid tribute to prominent local figures. Posthumously, Juan Hidalgo was named Adoptive Son for his artistic legacy, and Carmelo Pérez was recognized for his commitment to education and the history of the municipality. Other award winners include Noé Peña, for his contribution to musical culture.

 

Francisco Rodríguez, declared an Adopted Son for his dedication to social welfare and has spent practically his entire working life in the municipality.

 

As for the collective gold medals, they were awarded to security and emergency bodies, such as the National Police, Local Police, firefighters, Civil Protection and the Red Cross, for their indispensable work in critical moments.

Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez was recognized for his work as an official chronicler and theologian, contributing to the research and preservation of local history

 

Noé Peña Rodríguez, musician and director of the Municipal Music School, left an important mark on the cultural life of the municipality

 

Adopted Children


Francisco Rodríguez Santana, labor advisor, has dedicated much of his life to improving the conditions of the community of San Bartolomé de Tirajana

 

Juan Hidalgo Codorniú, a multidisciplinary artist, was recognized for his commitment to culture, especially in his last years living in the Ayacata area.

 

Gold medals


At a collective level, gold medals were awarded to the Local Police, National Police (Maspalomas police station), San Bartolomé de Tirajana Firefighters, Red Cross (local assembly) and Civil Protection, recognizing their role in the safety and well-being of the municipality.

 

At an individual level, Andrés Barriales Ardura was recognized for his work in promoting peace in Maspalomas and Lorenzo Castejón Mateo for his outstanding work as municipal secretary for more than two decades.
