Alejandro Marichal: “A key event to listen to citizens’ concerns, encourage dialogue and propose concrete actions to improve the municipality and ensure its long-term well-being”
Coalición Canaria in San Bartolomé de Tirajana begins this week with the Citizens' Days session 'San Bartolomé de Tirajana: Future and Sustainability', an event that seeks to bring together citizens, experts and opinion leaders to debate and propose solutions to the major challenges facing the municipality in such fundamental areas as sustainable tourism, the local economy and social development. These days will start next Thursday, October 17, with the Councilor for Citizen Participation of the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Ruyman Cardoso from 18:00 p.m. at the Mirador de la Dunas Interpretation Center, and are open to all residents interested in building a more prosperous and sustainable future for the municipality.
During the sessions, which will be distributed throughout the last quarter of the year, there will be the participation of local and regional experts, who will share their vision and knowledge on the key issues that affect the development of the municipality. Thus, the second session, entitled 'Gran Canaria's tourism model: 10 letters from the past' It will be held Thursday, October 31, at 18:00 p.m.. On this occasion, there will be the presence of Antonio Garzon Beckmann, a graduate in Economics and Business Administration and a diploma holder in Tourism TEAT. Garzón is a regular contributor to local and national digital press, where he shares his analysis of current tourism issues. During his presentation, he will explore the history of tourism in Gran Canaria and how past events have shaped the present and future of the sector on the island.
The third day, 'Maspalomas. Spatial justice and social sustainability' It will be held Thursday, November 21, also at 18:00 p.m.. This session will feature the participation of Maribe Doreste, President of the Platform for People Affected by the Tourism Law (PALT). Doreste will address the need for a more equitable and sustainable approach to the tourism development of Maspalomas, emphasizing the importance of spatial justice and social sustainability in the context of tourism.
As explained by the local Secretary of Coalición Canaria in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Alejandro Marichal, “the conferences are designed to encourage dialogue and reflection on sustainable tourism, the local economy and social development in the municipality, inviting residents to participate and contribute to the debate on a more responsible and sustainable model”. Admission is free, and all residents are invited to participate as it is “a key event to listen to the concerns of citizens, encourage dialogue and propose specific actions that improve the municipality and ensure its well-being in the long term”, concludes Marichal.
