Lucía Jiménez: “1,5 million euros will be invested in improving the habitability, accessibility and sustainability of the 80 homes”

The first deputy mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Hall, Alejandro Marichal, and the councillor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, have held a meeting with the residents of the IFA Group housing blocks to present them with the ambitious urban regeneration and renewal project that will transform their surroundings. This project, framed within the Urban Regeneration and Renewal Area (ARRU), seeks to improve both the infrastructure and the quality of life of the residents. At the meeting, the residents were informed of the progress made in the tender for the contracting of the construction company and the technical management which, as indicated by the councillor for Housing, “according to the deadlines we are working on, the work would be awarded at the end of the year and would begin in the first quarter of 2025”.
The main objective of the IFA Group project is to promote social well-being by improving the living conditions, accessibility and sustainability of homes and common spaces. The active participation of residents in improving their surroundings has been included in its design. Residents received detailed information about each of the planned changes and how they will benefit from the improvements, with the aim of ensuring that they are fully involved in the process.
As pointed out by the Councillor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, the Ifa Group is made up of five blocks with 80 homes, and is over 50 years old, which means it “has serious problems with its conservation and accessibility”. For this reason, she continues, the actions to be carried out involve re-urbanising the common areas, with special emphasis on accessibility, which will include the installation of ramps and lifts in the buildings. In addition, the plumbing and electrical networks will be replaced and the electrical and telecommunications lines will be buried, improving the safety and aesthetics of the façades. The installation of efficient lighting systems in the common areas and stairways, as well as the conditioning of façades and roofs, including improved waterproofing to prevent leaks. The open areas will be reorganised and fire and emergency lighting systems will be implemented, thus improving the safety of residents.
The project has a total investment of 1.556.164 euros, of which the Department of Housing of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council contributes 674.664 euros; the Housing Consortium, 420.000 euros; the Ministry of Public Works, 250.000 euros; the Government of the Canary Islands, 187.500 euros; and the residents, 24.000 euros. This budget will allow all the planned actions to be undertaken, guaranteeing sustainable development and comprehensive improvement of the infrastructure.
For his part, the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, highlights that this rehabilitation programme is one of the four pillars of action of the SBT Housing Plan 2024-2027 and that “it is part of the commitment made by Housing at the beginning of the legislature to rehabilitate the existing housing stock, for which an investment of more than 13 million euros has already been planned to act on the developments of Las Llaves, El Pajar, La Paz and the 106 homes of Castillo del Romeral”.
