Concepción Narváez (PSOE) and José Francisco Pérez (Hablemos AHORA) have expressed their concern about the withdrawal of aid to the Cahipso Association, which works with people in a situation of poverty.
The withdrawal of aid to the Cahipso Association, an organisation dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable people in the municipality, has generated a strong controversy in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In the midst of a social context where poverty and destitution have increased, the City Council has decided to allocate 180.000 euros to a research study on the child and youth population, leaving this entity that provides assistance to those who need it most without support.
The municipality faces an alarming situation regarding poverty and social exclusion. More and more people were turning to Cahipso in search of food and clothing as their only alternative to survive on the streets. These resources are now at risk due to lack of funding. The decision to prioritise a research study has been harshly criticised as it does not address the immediate needs of homeless people or those in extremely precarious situations.
Poverty in San Bartolomé de Tirajana has been aggravated by the economic crisis, and more and more families are at risk of exclusion.
